Week 1

Introduce yourself!

Dear all,

This is Richard Guozhen Li from Taiwan, or you can just call me Richard. Why I’m called Richard? Well, that’s because I want to make more money to buy a bigger house and a bigger car. In order to do that, I need to be richer(Richard)!

I’ve helped you remember my name better, haven’t I? Well, I’ve been teaching in a junior high school here in Taichung City, the third largest city in Taiwan, for ten years already. My students are around thirteen to fifteen years old, starting learning English from Grade 2 in their elementary schools. They have to work very hard to test into a better senior high school, so the purpose of learning English is mainly about how to get better grades on written and standardized tests, which is a common phenomenon shared by most young learners in Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

「翻轉教室」教學演示: Flipped Dinosaurs

Flipped Dinosaurs

Traditional ways of teaching focus on teachers’ effective lecturing about knowledge. All students have to do is sit in the class quietly and copy down everything the teacher has to write on the blackboard. Most of the time in class is spent on the delivery of content, and higher-order skills, like discussion and production, are usually ignored.

活化教學分組合作學習教學觀摩暨輔導員示範教學

by 李國禎(Richard Li)輔導員

Speaking-->Listening-->Reading-->Quiz(Writing)

Starting with a dice game, students review vocabulary by making sentences orally. All students have to do is to make their own sentences by the given clues from the dices which represent subjects and vehicle respectively. What comes next?

Building an Android Classroom

    An Android classroom, based on my humble opinion, means incorporating Android devices and apps in teaching. But why not iPad classroom?

Well, you can easily find so many relevant online resources, and they're basically the same thing, which is how to wirelessly mirror your content on the big screen in the classroom and devise handouts or worksheets with apps. Now, with the help of Miracast, building an Android classroom can be as easy as pie even for people who are not computer savvy at all.

Becoming a Better English Speaker

The most memorable presentation that I have ever made!!
Over the past few years, I have made many presentations in English, and probably this one on November 7 was the best I could possibly do. Invited by the other English Advisory Group of Taichung City, I shared some of my humble ideas of how to become a better English speaker. Based on those participants’ feedback, I knew this was exactly the job satisfaction I’ve tried hard to strive for. Unfortunately, I also realized it would be very difficult to do another as good as this one. But, it's great to know my limits so that I can always work hard to achieve this excellence one more time.
