Let's plan a cross-curricular class that incorporates English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) or bilingual teaching step by step:

2019 American English Teacher Seminar

The entire exchange program was sponsored by U.S. Department of State, implemented by FHI 360, with local programming by San Diego Diplomacy Council. There were 21 participants in total from Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines. The hosts gave us a brief overview of the program and logistics. As a border city with a considerable population of immigrants, we would be mainly focusing on bilingual education and school visits. Then, for our professional development programs, there would be topics related to Content-Based Instruction, Teaching English in English, Dual Immersion, etc.

Sometimes the most amazing adventures happen right in our own backyard. And for us here at KMJH, that adventure has been unfolding right next door, quite literally, at the National Comics Museum in Taichung. But the most exciting part? We recently had the chance to see our incredible ICE (International Cultural Exchange) students in action, leading a fantastic tour for students from Thailand! How cool is that?

Teaching English Through English Made Easy: Fun with Imperatives

To use English as the medium of instruction, a non-native English teacher has to conduct his or her classes in English, creating tremendous pressure and even disbelief about this government-initiated policy. The hidden truth leading to criticism or indifference among local English teachers is that most teachers falsely believe they have to speak English and lecture about grammar throughout the whole class.

To provide a crash course and plug-and-play resources, I have crafted engaging activity ideas, appealing visual aids, word-for-word activity instruction scripts, and demo videos for teachers in both big cities and rural areas to change their mindset and start giving it a try with their students. I aim to lead by example and demonstrate to local English teachers that teaching English through English is absolutely feasible.

Teaching English Through English Made Easy: Fun with Imperatives

To help promote 'Teaching English Through English,' an English teaching approach highly recommended and strongly supported by the Ministry of Education, I've created some plug-and-play materials and resources for fellow junior high teachers to use in either an open class or a demo class, with an invitation from one of the major English textbook publishers, Hanlin.

"An open class or a demo class taught by me? Quite a daunting scenario, right? No worries. These ready-made, intriguing activity ideas come complete with appealing presentation slides, activity instruction scripts, and demo videos, providing a surefire recipe for a successful open or demo class that keeps your students engaged and actively using English. The following activities center around the theme of 'imperatives' from B1U3 and are structured according to the ABCD Learning Objectives format:
