The Quality Development Collaboration Project

The purpose of this project is to develop school-based and custom-made curriculum to best suit the unique needs of the host school. The Education Bureau subsidizes the cost of this project, including hiring an expert to have workshops, and then send out inspectors to make sure the budget is well executed. 

The principal of Chung Chyuan Junior High School kindly invited me to help with the project after that sharing on International Education at the Education Bureau last semester. Under the obligation as a homeroom teacher, I have turned down many offers but this one because I just love anything and everything about this topic.

After the back-and-forth with my Korean counterparts, I made a significant breakthrough in promoting international education at MY school. By building our very first sister school partnership, the journey to inbound and outbound exchange just turned a new leaf. The timing also couldn't have been better because we just celebrated the school's 50th birthday.

Creating an authentic environment for my students to speak the language and get to experience cultural exchanges are always the main ideas throughout this course of International Education. Toshi, a Japanese English teacher who is also a Global English alumni of the UO AEI, came to visit me during his trip to Taiwan this February. We toured places including 刑務演武場, 光明國中, 逢甲夜市 and 東豐自行車道. It was such a pleasant experience for me to introduce the beauty of Taichung to Toshi in English, and I also gained new perspectives from his points of view. What if I could duplicate what I learned and extend Toshi's visit to benefit my students by getting them to make oral presentations about the same tourist attractions?

Building a Scenario Simulation Classroom

With the 100 thousand TWD grant for winning the International School Award from the Education Bureau and British Council Taiwan, I purchased two portable projectors and screens, six tablet computers and Bluetooth speakers, a high-end webcam and microphone, complete with a PC, a scanner, a dongle and so on.

We concluded this semester's International Cultural Exchange (ICE) program on a high note with a series of four video conferencing sessions and a fun-filled milkshake party.

Again, due to some unknown technical problem, two laptops were down right in the beginning of this video conferencing. It was quite chaotic and disorganized then, but immediately I decided to ignore it and made do with the rest three ones.

Sharing project ideas of international education with native English-speaking teachers of New Taipei City

I was absolutely excited as well as nervous to share my greatest passion for English teaching with over thirty native speakers at Jiangcui Junior High School. It put not only my English speaking but presentation skills to the test. Of course, I still made some minor mistakes, but based on their anonymous feedback, I was also proud that I nailed it as a presenter whose first language is not English.

International Video Conferencing with Azuchi (2018)

這不僅是一堂英文課，更是一場充滿歡笑的台日文化大亂鬥！從猜台北 101的造型構想到底是「竹子」還是「蛋糕」，到《風になる》與《小手拉大手》的跨語言大合唱，光明國中與安土中學的孩子們用熱情跨越了國界。為了讓氣氛更嗨，我甚至親自上陣比劃北斗神拳的拳四郎讓日本學生猜角色！透過珍珠奶茶、動漫以及彼此的真心，讓台日情誼在紛擾的世界中更加穩固前行！

It wasn’t just a video call; it was a concert, a quiz show, and a comedy act all rolled into one! Our students from KMJH and Azuchi JH didn't just practice English—they built a bridge between our cultures, swapping stories about food, school life, and everything in between.

International School Award: School Visits in Taipei

Those who are in charge of the ongoing ISA projects, complete with the previous award winners, got invited by the British Council Taiwan and the Education Bureau of Taichung City to visit two prestigious schools, Sanmin Junior High School and Dongmen Elementary School, which have been renowned for their achievements regarding International Education. I learned a lot from these visits as well as met many educators all over Taichung that shared the same passion together.

The Duo truly made significant progress in terms of English communicative skills with many international video conferencing calls in the past school year.

International Education at Kuang Ming

I have been doing lots of sharing at workshops and teaching demonstrations at different schools. However, today it was the first time that I shared and displayed some achievements in front of all the ninth graders in the very auditorium of my own school. Based on my perspective of how they responded, I think I did a good job today.

At the very end of this semester, we had two Skype sessions again with Azuchi Junior High School, Shiga, Japan. Students from both countries were having fun talking about themselves, school life and hobbies during the video conferences.
