Cooperative Learning: Class Participation and Discussion

Due to this national policy of promoting Cooperative Learning throughout all the junior high schools in the country, I get to travel to many schools to not only share what I've learned related to this teaching approach but observe other teachers' classes and give my professional feedback and suggestions. When it comes to classroom observation, I probably have done this over twenty times, gaining plenty of experience and STEALING many brilliant ideas from it as well. So, I've developed my own framework of participation and discussion in terms of Cooperative Learning, jotting down everything, including the highlights, my questions and suggestions, to share with all the participants right after the teaching demonstration.

Before Demonstration

I'll tell the event planner that I'm really willing to help check the teacher's lesson plan prior to the real performance if that's fine with him or her. Of course, this is not mandatory, but if I do

Task Based Learning Workshop

Getting Inspired Once Again towards TBL and its Lesson Planning

I attended the Task-Based Learning workshop held by the Ministry of Education and British Council Taiwan for the first time over two years ago and already have done many teaching demonstrations, English camps, and Skype exchange projects with principles and techniques learned from this brilliant English teaching approach since then. However, as soon as I learned about there would be a five-day TBL workshop this week by the very same lecturer, I immediately decided to sign up for the THIRD time and enjoyed every class of it.

A Quantum Leap in Teaching

Three years ago, I embarked on this great journey of gradually reinventing my ways of teaching with ideas and techniques from Cooperative Learning, Task Based Learning, lesson planning with ABCD objectives, to name just a few. I kept on trying out new strategies in my own class, microteaching, and teaching demonstrations. Of course, some worked so well, but some didn't. However, I've learned a great deal through this trial and error and eventually found a pattern that not only suits me so well but helps achieve the goal of getting students to talk in English.

第2053期「領導人員培育班」研習- 摘要與心得

1.署政策課程(國前署長官-林淑敏視察)
Some important educational policies were introduced, such as previous endeavors and measures put into helping creating normalization of a healthier teaching environment. As a member of the Advisory group, of course I would focus more on how to beef up teaching and assessment, which include Effective Teaching, Differentiated Instruction, Cooperative Group Learning and Alternative Assessment. These courses are considered as the key to the success of the educational reform, so workshops with regard to these topics will continued to be held to promote tried and trusted approaches to in-service teachers, hoping our students can benefit form those changes in teaching and assessment.

What makes a good teaching demonstration?

Having been invited to judge teaching demonstrations for the fifth time, I'd like to share some humble opinions on the ultimate test of becoming a qualified English teacher in public junior high schools:

2017 MOE Principal Instructional Leadership Workshop

Developing interdisciplinary and custom-made learning materials aiming for reading comprehension and real application
It was completely my honor to be assigned and take on this huge task, with a group of principals and professors observing throughout the entire class. On top of that,
in order to demonstrate interdisciplinary collaborations for future workshops, I also worked closely with the students' homeroom teacher, who teaches Scouting Activity, and developed custom-made reading materials to depict the host school's camping trip next month.

Teaching Demonstrations for Pre-service Teachers: Task-based Learning

南一書局 英語文領域新綱特刊 Vol. 2

Today's teaching demonstration served a dual purpose. One was to help promote Task-based Learning with not only the lesson plan but actual execution in a class. The other was to discuss how to deliver a good 15-minute teaching demonstration to stand out in that extremely fierce competition.

It is my honor and pleasure today to film for the “Teaching Demonstration Project” with the National Changhua University of Education. The idea is to demonstrate some innovative teaching strategies targeting reading and grammar in textbooks for all the junior high English teachers. On top of that, it is also my privilege to work with those lovely students in雅心書軒for the very first time after its unveiling ceremony at PHJH.

Teaching Demonstration at Chang Te

Overwhelmed with a heavy workload, I didn't have time to come up with a new lesson for this teaching demonstration at Chang Te. I made do with an old one. This is the sixth time that I taught students whom I've never met before, with all the English teachers sitting in the back as well.

分組合作學習到校教學演示

原先設計的Building rapport活動都還沒用到,結果一進班上學生就說老師很帥,雖說已是中年大叔了,但還是讓我原本有點緊張的心情立刻穩定下來。

Teaching Demonstration Filming Project of NCUE: Superlatives and Simple Past

It's been the second time to work with The College of Extension Education of National Changhua University of Education, NCUE, on this filming project for my third and fourth English teaching videos. The main idea is that English teachers can learn and benefit from the videos of this project online as part of the in-service training program of the Ministry of Education. These two dedicated videos of "Superlatives" and "Simple Past" were demonstrated with a variety of activities based on the principles of Task Based Learning, which emphasizing the meaningful application of the language in a context.
