A fun class
with a Fulbright ETA's
kinetic and well-organized tasks, complete with conversation practice with my
colleagues
Thanks to Caitlyn,
a Fulbright English teaching assistant at Da Tung Elementary School, my
students and I had a good time learning about D.C., including its professional
sports, the Washington Monument, the Cherry Blossom Festival, and so on.
Through her video,
we also got to appreciate the beauty of our hometown, Taichung, such as the
Rainbow Village, Gaomei Wetlands, Shinshe Sea of Flowers, Dakeng Trails,
Yizhong Night Market, to name just a few.
The kinetic activity worked well as an icebreaker. Then it transitioned to Caitlyn's family members and Taiwan experience. My students were motivated to take part in those tasks, along with some follow-up questions. It was lovely to see my students, regular and gifted ones alike, practice their listening comprehension as well as speaking skills.
My colleagues, one Chinese and two math teachers, also grabbed this opportunity to practice speaking English with Caitlyn. They all think she's such a friendly and easygoing person to talk to and are looking forward to hanging out with her someday. Also, we ran into many of her previous students from Da Tung. They were excited to meet their English teacher here in KMJH. It was amazing Caitlyn even remembered their names.
