SIEP International Education Certification Courses

Understanding the fundamental ideas and basic curriculum structures for school-based international education

The School-based International Education Project, or SIEP, is the MOE's national platform for international education. Its courses consist of topics, such as the national white paper, cross-curricular lesson planning, all sorts of international collaborative projects, and so on, which aim to equip school teachers and administrators with solid basics to develop a school-based curriculum. Participants will be awarded a certificate after full participation and completion of the three-day courses.

All six lecturers talked about visions, goals, and modes of curriculum regarding international education. They shared various stories and obstacles that helped engage and resonate with the audience. Also, with examples of incorporating cultural differences and essential topics, social studies teachers, who accounted for over half of the participants, would be more motivated to think about what more they can do with international education in the school.

Winning the International School Award by British Council Taiwan in 2016, I used to be so ambitious that I thought I could also single-handedly make it a new pride of KMJH other than the dance and traditional Chinese music club. I soon realized I could only continue Skype sessions and borrow international volunteers sporadically because I didn't have the school's full support.

Now with this certification course, I hope it’d plant a seed that more teachers would identify with the visions and then take one step further. Both ISA and SIEP value essential issue integration to cultivate global citizenship with cross-curricular collaboration, projects, lesson planning. As an English teacher, I'd be looking forward to working with more colleagues on government-funded programs soon.
