With the MOE's Oversa Sister Schools Alliance Project, KMJH is working with Blue Lake Union Elementary, California, on a series of virtual exchanges of slides and videos for self-introduction, school life, and bubble milk tea on Canva (教育部國中小學校與國外姊妹校互惠機制計畫).
The idea is to promote international collaborations with
English-speaking countries through online cultural and educational exchanges
and develop sister school partnerships. KMJH submitted an application form and
got accepted into the program to work with Blue Lake Union Elementary. For the
first half of the 2022 school year's project, I'd like to call it "Getting
to Know Each Other."
1. Self-introduction Slides
Students from both schools created slides to introduce
themselves, including their names, hobbies, school life, etc. I got my ICE
students to complete this task on Canva and come up with some interesting
follow-up questions for their counterparts.
2. Bubble Milk Tea Videos
What would be a better topic to share than the iconic drink that
originated here in Taichung? My ICE students made bubble milk tea from scratch,
then edited English-speaking videos on Canva to introduce its ingredients,
kitchen utensils, steps, and how they liked it in simple English. After making
the video, they became much more familiar with this world-renowned Taiwanese
snack and would share it for video calls with their foreign counterparts.
3. School Life Booklet
Each ICE student was assigned a topic related to school life or
the beauty of their hometown. With some guided questions, students could answer
and then complete a script. Following that, they created matching slides for
the content on Canva. Finally, we printed and bound a book and would have it
sent to California in no time.
With this MOE-founded project, not only did the ICE students have more opportunities to learn about California and exchange school life in English, but KMJH finally had a well-equipped, dedicated classroom for international education. We'll be looking forward to the upcoming collaboration projects with our partner school, including the Teddy Bear and campus plant exchanges. Last but not least, a meet-up in Taiwan this summer? We'll see about that, too.
