How do Japanese high school students see Taiwan’s big companies like TSMC, Foxconn, and BenQ? Why do they still thank Taiwan even though the big earthquake in 2011 was so long ago? If 18°C feels cold in Taichung, how do they feel in Iwate Prefecture, where it’s only 0°C?
In
our International Cultural Exchange class, we got to chat with senior high
school students from Japan about hobbies and school life. During the Q&A,
we asked each other fun questions about topics like baseball, anime, and
Taiwanese food. Two students from the dance class even showed off their amazing
dance moves!
Ever
since the very first video call exchange back in 2015, this marks only the
second time my ICE students have chatted with senior high school students. Of
course, they spoke more fluently than the junior high peers my ICE students
have previously interacted with, but what amazed me the most were their
topics—Taiwanese brands and food in Japan! What a brilliant and heartwarming
theme!
Next time with IHS, I’ll encourage my students to present things that Taiwan and Japan have in common. Personally, I’d love to share about my Suzuki SV650 and express how much joy this bike has brought me.
