I was over the
moon when my wife texted me this afternoon, saying "Your daughter just won
first prize.". I was like ten times happier than I myself won the
championship. I'm really, really proud of her.
For this English
Story Telling Contest of Jian Gong, we've worked so hard on the three assigned
stories, The Farmer Girl, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Polite Mouse and
the Mean Lion. With the help of the online English teacher, Albert, my daughter
got to polish her pronunciation and intonation, and I mainly focused on how to
bring the characters alive with vocal expression.
The screen capture
software also helped a lot. With only ONE laptop, I can record her rehearsal
and watch it later again and again together so that we would know how to
improve. My daughter and I also enjoyed acting out the emotions of the
characters by imagining we were actually like someone in a movie that we
watched before, like Sharpay in High School Musical.
I've been wanting
my daughters to be able to enjoy learning English as I do. With contests like
this or Readers' Theater competitions, my daughter picked up a lot of knowledge
and skills along the way during preparation. With this video of rehearsal
bloopers, we'll both share this
indelible memory for a very long time.
